Emily and the Earrings

Emily has been asking for a year to get her ears pierced.  We told her she could do it on her 5th birthday, same as Caroline did.  The 5th birthday came and went in November, and she told me she wanted to wait until she was 6.  Fine with me.  But Emily has been bringing it up again and again, asking if she could get her ears pierced.  Tim did a little research and discovered that a kiosk in the mall is the last place you should go!  Apparently, tattoo parlors are the best because they have to follow state and federal health regulations in terms of sanitation and sterilization of equipment.  Their piercers also have to have an extensive training course as opposed to the teenager at Claire's that took a 30 minute module on the computer.  So we headed to Jack Brown's Revival in F'Burg and had a pretty pleasant experience!  Emily picked out blue-green stones.  The piercing lady was fantastic.  She distracted Emily with chit-chat about her 5 year old son while she did the piercing.  It went fast and before we knew it, both ears were done!  Emily cried out a little but recovered quickly.  By the time we were checking out to leave, Emily was smiling and showing off her ears.  They barely turned red and haven't been a bit of trouble since it was done three days ago.

Waiting to get it done!

Garrett & Shelby -- 2 years!

So, yeah, my 15 year old celebrated his 2 year anniversary with his girlfriend yesterday.  How does that happen?!  I was fully prepared to accept Garrett's first girlfriend once he hit college.  I figured he was nowhere near mature enough to attract the opposite sex before age 18!  But somehow Shelby fell for his adorable smile, sarcasm, sharp wit, and smooth trombone tunes.
Garrett's present for Shelby was a collection of photos of them over the past 2 years in a collage frame along with a handwritten note in one of the photo openings.  Shelby made Garrett a trombone out of clay.  These two are adorable.  They spent the day making tiger fudge, eating wings, and watching the Super Bowl.  My kind of anniversary!
