August Antics!

Scootering around the neighborhood!

We went to our neighborhood pool many times, but it was so dang crowded!

First day of school!  August 13, 2018

Tim's birthday!

We got a $50 pool from Walmart for the days I didn't feel like fighting the crowd at the neighborhood pool.  The kids also liked going into it early in the day (our pool doesn't open til 1 PM).

This snorkel and fin set was worth its weight in gold!

Emily's baby dolls were frequent visitors to the pool!

Back to School Library Displays!

I like to spice up the library with new displays for back to school, so enjoy the fun below:
Caution:  Banned Books Week

My hallway bulletin board for Back to School Night!

8th grade's first library activity was "6 word book reviews".  They had to recommend a book to fellow students using exactly 6 words to surprise, entertain, or spoil the plot for someone else!  They did an amazing job!

I was so tired of seeing the old plastic blinds from inside these windows (computer lab on the other side of the wall).  I covered them in bulletin board paper, added border and a couple of posters from the Dollar Store, and suddenly, I didn't hate that wall anymore!

Advice from a Cactus display in a side bookcase that isn't really part of the general book collection.

My author posters for Back to School Night!  I found the black and white drawings of the authors, added clip art of the sun glasses, then added the catchy sayings!  We printed them from our new poster maker!

LEGO Brick Faire & Dulles Air/Space Center

Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly VA was hosting the LEGO Brick Faire and we drove up to see what the fuss was all about!  My God, these people spend A LOT of time and money on their models!  It was Legos for days in this place!  I was shocked at how intricate some of the designs were, like the mosaic below:

Lego golf course!  We don't say no to mini golf in this family!

I kind of fell in love with this Lego guy :)

The kids each made a mosaic square, then added it to the larger set up (see below).  By the end of the day, it was a giant mosaic sign for the Lego faire!

Storm trooper!

Tim has been working at the Dulles Air & Space Center for a few months, and he wanted to show us some exhibits.  We were already in the area, so why not?

Satellites!

Real space shuttle!

Jason lost a tooth at the Lego fair!  This is his third tooth lost, and he seems to always lose it in food (this time was a hot dog).
