Prestwould Plantation

While in Clarksville a couple of weeks ago, we visited Prestwould Plantation, which is the oldest and most well-documented historic home in Virginia.  The preservation people have gone all over the country, re-buying all of the items that were originally in the home.  They have preserved and brought back almost the entire collection, including furniture, curtains, etc.  We were the only ones there so we basically got a private tour.  It was very neat!  It was the home of Peyton Skipwith and he brought over a lovely, pale bride who died of consumption.  He promptly married a cousin (at the age of 46, and she was 40) and had 4 kids in the next six years.  Good job buddy!

I'm guessing that people were a lot shorter back then....

Looks like the smoke house got a little too smokey.....
